Before I start -

WAHOOOOOOOO SCHOOL'S OUT!!!! YAY

okay now

1) Can anyone dunk a basketball?

and

2) Has anyone here ever heard of 'Air Alert'? You can read about it here . It's a workout-sorta program that increases your vertical jump by at least 8 inches... I'm thinking about doing it after basketball season's over... It would be nice to be able to at least touch the rim. It annoys me when the kid who's half an inch shorter than me jumps up and touches the rim and I'm six inches away. (I'm 5'6")

1) No, but once I thought I touched the rim, but maybe it was just the net.

2) I wouldn't think this is necessary. Wouldn't strength training be all you need? That and practice.

P.S. You can do it!

I'm 6 foot 3, and I can just barely dunk it. I can't jump very high because of some problem I have with my left knee and my right thigh.

I'm 5'4" and I can't dunk a basketball.

I can't sink a freethrow, either.

Thank you, Cindy. It's kind of funny because after that first game (the loss), our coach told us we should go undefeated the rest of the season, and I didn't think we could do it, but we have so far!

Our A team is undefeated but they have a tournament now and in their first game in it their best player (the 5'5" kid who can touch the rim) can't play (punishment for getting caught cheating! eek frown )... We'll have to see if they stay that way.

If you'd stop that constant dancing over in the corner, you might heal...... wink

Basketball and I don't mix. The ball seems to have a mind of its own whenever it comes in contact with my hands. I am totally uncoordinated.

The last time I played basketball in high school I was a sophomore. I could not dribble and walk at the same time. First, another player passed me the ball and I missed grabbing it (my arms crossing in the attempt, hands splayed out) and the ball hit me square in the face. Minutes later I had a fast break opportunity and I tried to get going and dribble the ball. The ball went down, I was trying to look up the court, and the ball came back up, missed my hand and hit me...square in the face. I grabbed the ball and yelled, "Son of a bitch!" The PE teacher just laughed. I was no good at sports, other than volleyball.

In the mid-ninetys me and a few friends went through the program (well, about half of the program anyways). It gave decent results in that it increased my verticle by about 4 inches in about 6 weeks. I don't think I ever got pass the week six part of the program though (I started over at the beginning several times).

From what I remember, it's a highly progressive workout scheme. I was in decent shape at the time, and my legs were always sore for the first 4-5 days of each week. Then when the next week starts you have to add on to your workout (ie. in week two the number of repititions for each excercise double), and the soreness starts all over again.

It's not a bad program if you can't go to the gym, or don't have access to free weights because it is quite intense. I'd email you a copy of the (old) program if I could find it. (If you want to know more about it you can pm me, and I'll try to dig it out of my "box of death").

The important thing to remember is that technique is everything to the program. It's far to easy to simply "get through" the workout without accomplishing much.

Oh, and one other thing, it can be incredibly hard on your knees, so be careful and follow the warm-up/knee massaging stuff to the "T" if you decide to start. Be sure to work out on a soft surface (don't do it on concrete). It's probably been about ten years since I did it, and now I do occasionally have knee problems (not sure if this was a contributing factor or not).

Thanks for your post. They came out with a new program now, and I don't know how much like the old one it is. I never go to the gym, though. It says that it is fine on your knees on their website but that may not mean anything. If I start the program I might start a thread like Luke's Dad's '___ smokeless hours' thread only with my vertical jump to let you know how it's going. Mmm... bed... ringing handbells at church tomorrow and have to get up at like 6:15 eek

Left knee and right thigh... my butt. You can't jump and dunk a ball cause you're *white*. laugh

C'mon, admit it. :p

I can't play basketball...

BUT, I did get my revenge.

Our cars are so small that if you are 5' 10" and above you will find them to be small. We have ways to make it easier, (and we have even put in a 6'5" customer), but is will always be a small car.

Our customers generally love the car so much, and want one so bad, they put up with the inconvenience of the size. If they complain, we just say, "Short man's revenge...you won in High School basketball; now it's our turn to drive!"
