my my....it is indeed a beautiful piano. I agree with monica, there is no way i could watch them carry it up without getting a high blood pressure/ heart attack ready to happen. How much did you pay them to get it up to your place? I was lucky enough to have the piano fit into the lift.

Thank you Chickgrand! The elevator was indeed too small..which resulted in me forking an extra S$3.4K (approx US$2.2K) to haul the thing up. Movers here charge by the floor, usually between S$150-200 per floor, which isn't all that difference from US costs, except that its denominated in the local currency (US$1 = S$1.6)

Did you say $2200 eek How many weeks did it take them and how many lives were lost? wink

Lovely piano and you must be one dedicated pianist. Your neighbours must also be very understanding.

It took them all of 2 hours, from the first to the 24th floor. Amazing guys.

I won't call myself a dedicated pianist...just a very passionate amateur!

And to avoid disturbing my neighbours, I had acoustic panelling on my walls, velvet curtains and a 1 inch thick rug. The piano sounds just nice now as a result - nice and warm, not too loud. Even the roaring bass, which I had encountered in the factory, has been tamed, and is much more subtle now, though no doubt waiting to reveal itself once the hammers are more worn in!

You don't have an elevator in your building?

They can "keyboard" a piano to slide it in to an elevator. But I understand this information is a bit late. ;^)

Congratulations. Look beautiful! Can't wait for the invitation to your piano party...

Wow!

That is the most steps I have ever seen a piano go up or down! eek

Was a crane too expensive? Not feasible due to small windows?

That is one honey of a piano

Love the fallboard and the hygrometer.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

Skeletony, I did think of you and the pics you posted of your piano delivery on the AB forum. I presume you live near to the ground floor or have a larger elevator?

How exciting! What a gorgeous piano. I've never seen one with like that with just the fallboard burled - what a lovely touch. Are you in heaven? (Certainly high enough! wink )

With such a gorgeous fallboard, I think you should get one of those fallboard protectors for when you play. Otherwise, with time the board will be filled with numerous fingernail scratches.

Just FYI, sometimes it's possible to put a piano *on top of* an elevator car, when it won't fit inside it (in other words, inside the elevator shaft, but not inside the elevator car -- like when the good guys escape through a ceiling hatch).

Beautiful piano! Please don't let direct sunlight hit it, to protect the finish. Many old pianos have sun damage on the bass side.

pianoloverus: I like cosmetic imperfections that give character, my vote for his piano is no fallboard protector, let that piano live! lol.

Wow..away for half a day and there are so many responses. She's quite a beauty isn't she? I'm very grateful to my dealer for proposing the walnut finish...gives it an added uniqueness and touch of elegance! Certainly I'm in heaven just looking at her (not mentioning caressing those keys and getting that silky, deep warm sound out of it)

Skeletony, Grotriman, Cy Shuster - the moving fees was actually S$3400. $2200 was in US dollars, not Singapore dollars. We did try our best to fit it into the elevator, but at the end of the day, it just didn't fit - ever since our block went through an "upgrading programme", the size of the lift has been drastically reduced (don't ask me why!). Using a crane wasn't an option as the price starts at some S$5000 (US$3000), with additional expenses incurred depending on difficulty, and could go up to even S$10000! So there was no choice but to carry it up with pure human labour. But I was lucky that the team employed was very professional and very responsible. Like I said, I had already factored in the transport cost into my overall costs, and thought they deserved every penny they got.

Chris, i was lucky enough to have the piano fit into the elevator. Its slightly longer than WzKit's delta at 6'5 i think. Maybe the fact that i told him i will be penniless after buying the piano from him helped...

Wzkit... Congratulations to you on a very grand purchase!

What a beauty!

I've never noitced any deliveries, on PW, where a piano has been hauled up so many flights of stairs.

I kept thinking of the book, Piano Shop on the Left Bank and how he made such a big to-do about a piano being carried up 2-3 flights!!!

I hope you have a lovely view outside your window for added enjoyment while playing your piano!

May you and your new addition enjoy many musical years together!! thumb
