I talked to somebody yesterday who says it costs $50 to fill his tank.
He fills up twice a week.

$100 per week.
$433 a month.
$5,200 a year.

eek

I'm thinking this *must* be a record.

Do you know anyone paying more than that?

Gee Kenny, how many miles do you get per gallon? What kind of car do you have? I can't remember.

my post wasn't sarcastic... I really do rule.

Wait, I didn't post about how much I rule... well I wasn't being sarcastic about my mileage either.

Hi...Kenny,
Your friend is getting by pretty cheap. If I drive my caddy for an entire week, this translates to three tanks of gas. With 24 gallons @ $2.39, you do the math! eek I'm sure enjoying the TDI bug. smile

Sincerely,
Eldon

3(2.39 x 24) =

$172 per week
$746 per month.
$8948 per year.

eek

Can anyone top that?

*gives a high 5 to the other TDI owner*

B100 goes in the tank at the next fillup. I'll be totally petrol-independent!

KB:

Last week an event occurred that wiped out a big chunk of our fuel savings; the injection pump on our '00 Golf TDI went at 110k.
1700.00 frown Was it the PowerServices additive we used? bad fuel? who knows...
My hope for your vehicle is many more thousands of miles on that cigarette-pack sized part.

Kenny- our other car is a Pacifica-we probably put two 45.00 tanks in every three weeks.

That $1700 repair could have happend on any car.
I wouldn't say it wipped out your fuel savings.
Think if it happened on a much more thristy car.

I checked my visa bill, because I was wondering how long I was going between fill-ups costing $48 usually.

It's 11 days. I think if I put my mind to it I could make it two weeks.

Terry, sorry to hear that.

A fuel pump shouldn't cost that much... I might be wrong but that seems very high.

Was that done at the "stealership"?

For future servicing try to find a VW/TDI nut who works in your area. There are a ton around, and they often do these kinds of repairs. Check out tdiclub.com

(it's the pianoworld for TDI owners).

I totally agree with Kenny though - you can't take normal "stuff" that comes up with cars and take it out of whatever you've saved on fuel. Fuel savings is only compared to fuel expenditures.
If you think using Biodiesel caused the fuel pump to go, this is just something dealerships like to say to get out of fixing stuff under warranty when they know a VW is running it. there's NO evidence that refined biodiesel will cause damage to fuel pumps. There's been a fairly large study on this at biodiesel.org with fleets of biodiesel autos in public service.
anyway...
sorry to hear about your fuel pump going. I hope you replaced it with the 11mm pump? smile (j/k)
Nice to go over 100k on an automobile in 5 years. Any other major repairs yet?
Also, I'm sure you already know this, but have you done the timing belt yet?

Diesel injector pumps are expensive.

It's not a fuel pump in the same sense of a gasoline engine. It is responsible for fuel distribution to the injectors.

[EDIT] I should have stated a "naturally aspirated (carburetor) " gasoline engine. Fuel injected gasoline engines which are the rule rather than the exception these days also have similar injector pumps that are quite expensive as well.
