I've decided on the new YPG-635 out this summer. I e-mailed kraftmusic.com and would get the Survival Kit 88 (includes 3 yr warranty, DVD, etc. etc.), WB2 bench, LP7 3-pedal unit, and free ground shipping from UPS. Cost: $899.95.

Is this a good deal? Where can I find any other good deals? How can I know I'm not getting screwed?

Thanks!

You could try pricegrabber dot com or slickdeals or fat wallet, or other shopping engines then compare features, packages, reputations of sellers. If you search the archives, you will find generally positive comments about kraft music, I believe. Just at a rough glance, that sounds like a decent deal. To be sure it is a "good deal" there is not much else to do but investigate your local stores or also the large retailers like guitar center, or sam ash. Possibly Sam's club or Costco may carry it, too. Then, too, there is the cost of your time to assure yourself that it is a fair and "good deal"... Don't forget to consider your time spent.

This piano has very modest specs. You
can get a good, new digital piano with
similar or better specs for about half
that price. Digital pianos are generally
very reliable, so a 3 yr. warranty
that costs you extra is not necessary. In
fact, if a manufacturer has to offer a 3 yr.
warranty, then that may be a bad sign, because
in general there should be no need
for repair of a digital piano. My
first digital, bought new in 1989, is still
in perfect condition and has never needed
any kind of maintenance or repair.

If you buy any console model digital today, it
will almost surely have 3 pedals built in, so
a 3-pedal unit is not something extraordinary.
Moreover, you only need one pedal. In more
than 30 yrs. of playing I have only used the
right pedal.

If you buy online, free ground shipping is
typically standard with digital pianos,
so this is not something extraordinary.

I'm don't what this DVD is, but if it
is an instructional DVD on how to play the
piano, then it's going to be awkward to use
with this type of piano. You're going to
have to balance a DVD player or laptop
on top of the piano, and this may be difficult
because the top surface of a digital
piano typically slopes. So you might
not be able to use this DVD when you get it.
This type of DVD would be used with a
61-key portable keyboard that you plop
down on the floor right in front of
a laptop.

Take some time and do some shopping around.
For example, you can save a lot of money
by getting a piano with 32 polyphony
instead of 64. There is little practical
difference between 32 and 64 polyphony
in real world playing.

In general, do people have success negotiating with Kraft?

On its face, I would say this seems like a very good deal for a new model from a dependable maker. They're so new, it's hard to know for sure what a good deal is.

Edited to add...

Is a stand part of the bundle? Or does the 635 come with a stand?

Kraft does negotiate. I started with one of their standard bundles, changed the stand, changed the bench and got a very good deal.

Thanks, Gyro, for the perspective but I think I'm sticking with my choice. I just can't find that many bundles around. All I ask is for a stand, the LP7, the WB2, and the survival kit.

Kraft's bundle included an FC4 and FC5, but with the LP7 I won't need those two pedals, right?

you don't need additional pedals if the stand has 3 already, which you could negociate with Kraft again to exclude the FC4/5 and make the price a little lower.

Do out of state deals include tax?

Well, since you're in Indiana and so am I, NO, they don't charge tax when you buy.

You're supposed to pay tax when you file your taxes every year, for all your out of state purchases for that year. It's called a "Use Tax" and it requires that you keep track of all those purchases.

Good luck with that!
