Hi everyone! I just joined this forum because I could really use some help.

I'm moving from my home into a large apartment, and switching out my acoustic for a digital so I don't disturb the neighbors. Currently I just play on a Starck console that's still in great condition.

I'm from MN and I've visited a few local dealers in my search. Today I was at Jim Laabs and I tried out the Sejung SJG-380 baby grand. Obviously the model looks pretty because it's a "mini" size that would fit well in my new place, along with the polished ebony. I enjoyed playing it in the store, but I have a few reservations which were confirmed by searching some of the old posts.

I don't think that I had ever even heard of the Sejung brand until today, and I'm concerned about whether or not it's reliable. To be honest, I'm not incredibly concerned about getting something that has absolutely amazing sound or features (simply because my budget doesn't allow for it), but I don't want to sacrifice quality just for a low price.

The price I have been offered is $1980 which includes delivery and set-up as well as a 5 year warranty and the option to use the amount that I spent as credit toward a future purchase if I decide to trade it in. The warranty covers all parts and labor. What do you think of this offer?

Does this sound like a good idea? Or do you guys think that I would be better off buying a more basic model of a Yamaha or Roland instead?

I really don't want to spend more than $2500. Any suggestions on digitals?

Thanks SO much for any advice!!

have you tried other brands/models around the same price range at the dealer? if i were you, i'd try many other models and choose one with best sound and feel rather than the look. you have to spend time to compare all different DPs so that you can buy a good one worth of your money, not just for you to look at. be careful with anything you haven't heard of.

From what I recalled Jim Laabs had mostly acoustic pianos. I would suggest taking a trip over to Carlson's Pianoworld and even a Guitar Center just to be able to check out as many digitals as possible before making a decision.

Those two stores are on the north/northwest side of the city and the main reason I stopped at them was that my sister lives out in the maple grove area so I had a reason to go visit them. As for myself, I'm way northeast of the the city in the Lindstrom, MN area.

In the end I didn't end up buying my digital locally. I bought my FP-7 on the internet instead. I decided that the extra expense of the HP-203 over the fp-7 wasn't worth it in the long run since saving money now puts me that much closer to getting a nice acoustic to play on in the future, since that was going to be a path I would likely take eventually.

Buy the Yamaha CLP240 on closeout with your money. Skip the Sejung junk.
