It's a toss up for me between the P120 and a new Roland 300SX.
Just wondering what the action on the 300SX is like and how the grand piano sounds compare.

I second this inquiry. Having shied away from the P90, I'm now considering the P120 and the RD-300SX. Speak up, good people of this fine Internet forum!

Between the two, I'd prefer the RD300SX. Better sound -- better feel. But if it were me, I'd hold out for the RD700SX. A significant jump in quality for not a lot more money.

The specs say they the new Rolands use a compact hammer action. Is it better?

I guess it depends what you mean by "better". Is it better than the RD150? I think so. Better than the RD700? No way. But then again, it's all very subjective. I think they're shipping very soon if not already. You should all have a chance to play one soon.

I'm considering the 300SX as opposed to the 700 because of the weight. I'm looking for something I can haul around on my own to and from gigs.
Unfortunately although there are a few over here now I'm miles away from any of the stockists  .
What I was wondering was how the action compares to the P120 if the sounds are as good.
Cheers chaps!

To me, the RD300SX and the P120 are both "pro-sumer" or "semi-pro" keyboards -- that is, they have both pro and consumer features. You've got to get what works for you and your situation. If that means that having a lighter keyboard is more important to you than sound/feel, then go for it. For me, I'll take the higher quality keyboard with an SKB case with wheels!!!

I much prefer the RD-300SX over the P120. I think it sounds better and the action is faster and easier to play.

Nudging this back..
Is there a real compromise with the RD300SX "Compact" Progressive Hammer Action versus others (such as RD700SX, P120, P250 etc)?

Besides keeping the weight of the overall instrument down, IMO there is no compromise in feeling having played the both the 300SX and 700SX but that depends on you. But, like SteveY I would try to ante up for the 700SX and get the full Progressive Hammer Action and the additional sounds.

I think the RD300SX is great for what it is. But personally, I feel a huge difference in the action when moving up to the RD700SX. For me, it's well worth the difference in price. To others, it might not be...

I agree. I tried them both the other day and IMHO the 700sx feels noticably better.

I have been eager to give these models a try for some time now, but I am having difficulty locating a dealer in my area. When one hops on the http://www.rolandus.com product page for the RD-x00SX, the user is greeted with a 'Notify me when this product ships' instead of a 'Find a dealer (enter your zip code)' prompt.

Have these models not entered widespread circulation yet?

Sounds like the web site is lagging behind a bit. Do you have a Guitar Center or Sam Ash in your area?

Anybody else get the chance to compare the RD-300SX with the RD-700SX?

P120's action is heavier than RD300sx. RD300 sx is like FP2 exactly, because they are made with the same keypad. If you like light action get Roland, otherwise, go for Yamaha...

No it's not exactly the same, I have both. They modified the action for the RD-300SX. The FP2 action is lighter.

Rintincop, thank you for this info:) What about RD 700 and 700sx? Do theyhave the same action and keypad? Do you know anything about this? I think they are exactly the same, but recently, I have heard sth different from someone to remember...
