sounds like it will be priced around that of the P90.

why do you say that msrp is $1499, $200 more than the p90. And I can't tell what the difference is to account for the higher price or the p140 moniker.

The link doesn't work any more, and "search" returns no results on the P-140. Seems like someboday at HC pulled the plug on the story.

Since the link doesn't work anymore, do you guys have any information on the new P140?

Number of sounds?
Speakers?
Rhythm section?
etc.

becasue the S08 synth (which I own) has the same list price, and I paid $999 for it, which is the smae price as the P90.

Is any pic of this new product available? The link just doesn't work anymore.... Anybody saved the pic? I heard that it's more like a home style digital piano.

Man I didn't save the pic. It looks very nice, they just had the silver and light wood version pictured. It looks about the same shape as the P90 and the write-up suggested it is light-weight like the P90. Obviously it should cost more than the P90 though given the list price they stated as $1499 (same as P120), and the name "P140". Nothing was mentioned about "new" piano samples, so I assume its the same three-layer (it did say this) samples that are on the p90 and p120.

It didn't looks like it had speakers, but I could be wrong. It said 64-note polyphony and 40 voices, that is more voices than the P90 (I think it has like 24?). Other than the different style and more voices, I couldn't tell what else separates it from the P90. I would think P95 would be a better name. Again, I don't know if it includes speakers but I don't think so.

On the Harmony CentraL KSS forum, some people noticed that the there is something that lookks like the mesh of the speakers right above the keyboard.

Best.

raindogxx - thanks for the link and the pic.

I called Yamaha USA on August 23rd, and the Yamaha rep. said the P140 had not been officially released, but added to watch their website.

As for the possible speakers immediately above the keyboard...this is a mere guess...but I would guess these are actually speaker ports and replace the horizontal speaker grills at the R&L rear of the current P120. This type of arrangement has been used on Clavinova pianos for a long time.

Guess we will just have to keeping watching for the formal announcement for better specification information, pricing, and availability.

Don't hold your breath. Yamaha USA STILL hasn't posted any information about the Clavinova 200 series. And we have been speculating about them for months. (Thankfully, they are now in the stores.)

I must admit that I'm at a loss as to why any of the major digital piano/synth vendors are broducing new S&S (Sample & Synthesis) type boards with less than 128 note poly.

Layer any two slowly decaying (stereo) voices (eg: piano and strings) and play a fast passage (or play with damper pedal) and you'll end up with note stealing (dropped notes). Granted, Yamaha's note stealing algorithm is very good and generally isn't noticeable to the avaerage soloist, but for playing back sequences and voice layering it's still hit and miss.

My money would go to the new S90ES if I was looking for a new board. $2100 USD retail but definately more than rwice the board.

My 2 cents,

Rodney

You're right - it's gone.

It was there - really!

It looks a lot like the P120.

One difference I remember from the specification was that the P140 amplifier was smaller. The P120 amplifiers are 12.5W x 2, if I remember correctly the P140 was 6W x2.

So, there is an answer to the question above - it does have built-in speakers.

I just did a quick Google on "Yamaha p140" - there are actually a few references that no longer work - including the harmony-central reference above.

So, now the question is what mystery caused Yamaha to make the P140 disappear?

Hey!
Anyone knows if the P250 will be replaced soon? I have one, and Im gonna open a new recording studio, so, I wanna know if it will dissapear to decide if it is profitable buying a new one or if its better waiting for the new model. Thank you very much!

I believe the P140 is the update of the P60. 14 voices, 2 x 6w speakers, 64 notes polyphony doesn't sound like a new P120.

According to this site, this appears to be a Yamaha P140. (It's obviously a totally different animal, although it appears to be identified as a Yamaha P140 stereo grand piano. Note wheels on LH side, etc.)

The picture that raindogxx shows above looks like the one that was on the Yamaha site yesterday.

The link he provided to the Keyboard magazine site still works:

Those look like speakers on the top. Is this the P250?

well, whatever it is supposed to be an update of, I think the price $1499 might be asking too much. I think the p120 is a better deal.

Hmmm, i know where you are coming from, but i am not so sure. If this truly is an update of the P60, it is over-priced dramatically.
Perhaps the P140 is a manafacturers update of the P120(cheaper to produce), rather than a retail upgrade, it would sure explain a lot.
But IMO the P120 didn't need an upgrade, they are still selling very well and beat competing Roland models hands down.

The pic seems to be wrong...you can see the actual p140 on P140 promo brochure at yamaha US site.

Not to doubt an opinion if that is how your observation was offered, just questioning your frame of reference? By beating Roland hands down, do you mean saleswise, use on pro stages, studios etc....

Just seeking clarification...

Thanks
