I collected specs on the Yamaha CLP series DPs (and a few others) from the US Yamaha web site.

I've assembled the data into a spreadsheet for easy comparison:
Digital Piano Specs

Update ... as of 12/20/2008, the spreadsheet covers these models:

Great job Thorwinkle, but there are some mistakes for the CLP-370 probably because Yamaha has some errors on their Yamaha USA website about the CLP-370 SPECIFICATIONS:

- Number of sampling banks must be: 30 NOT 50. (found on Yamaha European websites)

- Amplifiers should be: 40W (like CLP-240/340)

- Dynamic Damper (Damper Resonance) Effect: Yes, but not through IAFC because there is no IAFC system.

Only the CLP-370 FEATURES-page has it right about the amplification, speakers and no IAFC!

wink

I love my dark rosewood Yamaha CLP-240. She's as honest with me as a loyal dog but she sounds better.

Thanks. I'll take a look and make the fixes.
I wonder how we can be sure which is right ... the specs page or the features page?

I've spotted another error - you have the CLP370 with a GH3 KB - it's NW.

ANNOYING!

The US web site says GH3 synth ivory on the "specs" page, but NW synth ivory on the "features" page.

The UK site ssys NW synth ivory.

I swear! smile I'm looking at them right now.

There's also a discrepancy in the amps:
US "specs" page says dual 60+20 watt, but features page says Tri-Amp.
And UK says dual 40 watt.

Yamaha is rather careless on their US website, the Yamaha UK page (and most other European websites) has it right.

So the CLP-370 has:

- Natural Wood (NW) Keyboard with Synthetic Ivory Keytops (with real-wood white keys)

- Amplifiers: 40W x 2

- Speakers: (16cm + 5cm) x 2

The more sophisticated soundsystem is for the CLP-380 only:

Amplifiers (Tri-Amp): 35W x 2 + 20W x 2 + 20W x 2 + 12W x 2
Speakers: 16cm x 2, 2.5cm (DOME) x 2, 8cm x 4

with IAFC system.

wink

also, both YDP140 and 160 have 3 step Dynamic sampling, which is not on older YDP models and not on your spreadsheet.

further facts:

P140 has 3-level dynamic sampling.
P70, P85 support half-pedal.

If people find this spreadsheet useful, I wonder if anyone could offer help in maintaining and expanding it?

It's hard to get complete/accurate info (see earlier posts).

And I've only covered Yamaha models. Roland and Kawai (at least) deserve coverage.

(But please don't tell me you want to see specs on the Williams Encore smile )

Hey, the P85 and P140 both have half-pedal capability, and are expandable to 2 or 3 pedals. Check their website.

I also think you should add a row that specifies whether the DP is portable or cabinet style.

A valiant effort, I must say!

Gotta keep in mind though that even within manufacturers, the same specs may sound vastly different. I know my Yamaha's dynamic AWM sampling sounds a world apart from the dynamic AWM sampling in my Dad's Yamaha, for example.

I'm only showing default configurations.

Agreed. But it's getting late ... I'll save that for another time.

Great work on the spreadsheets. I have downloaded them and placed them on my desktop to use with customers. Thanks for the hard work. One caution though, the tale of the specs does not tell. We are talking about musical instruments and the actual touch and tone cannot be told from the spec sheets. Some systems opperate more effeciently. Some systems even utilize polyphony differently in the sampling and pedaling technology. Don't rule a product out until you actually play and hear it for yourself.

L Horwinkle you still have to make this adjustments.

I did put a link to the topic in the "PLEASE READ THIS FIRST FOR ADVICE BEFORE POSTING A QUESTION"-sticky.
