Someone just offered to sell me a Clavinova CLP 350 for $850. It is 20 years old and has been treated well. 3 of us in our family are beginners and have decided upon a digital piano.

Would you recommend spending this much on a 20 year old piano? Are the new ones that much better now? We want no bells or whistles, we want a piano.

Thanks,

Theresa

i think it's a too old model. i wouldn't spend $850 for it if i were you. you probably can get a new lower end CLP model with just little more money.

check some new or newer models here, and then check a specific model at some online dealer sites to see how much they'd sell for it:

The CLP-350 was introduced in 1988. I agree that you can get a much better new digital piano for only a few hundred dollars more - both sound and action...plus a new warranty. You may want to look at the P-140.

Thanks for the insight. However, I just found this review:

and am curious if the sound is this good, then why not?

if i were you, i'd compare its specs with some new model's (say CLP230/240) to see what it's lacking. reviews don't always mean anything especially for a several year old review.

Here is a link to the CLP-550/CLP-350 Owner's Manual.

http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/emi/english/cla/CLP550E.PDF

As a relatively early CLP model, the CLP-350 only has 5 voices, two physical pedals, and a total of only 20 watts (10W x 2).

this is just one review from someone who probably had never compared it to anything else
