Hi, I'm new here this is a great forum with a lot of great information.

I have a Yamaha psr-290 keyboard which is a entry level 61 keys so its not fancy. The piano sound is good enough for a entry level keyboard, I was wondering what piano was used for the sound sample? I'm guessing its one of their concert grands like the CFIIIS perhaps. Any information, thanks.

This is a special piano sample.

I believe it isn't sampled, it actually sounds really digital.

It's a "Live! Grand" right?
It sounds too digital to be sampled... probably created I think.

Thanks for the reply. The voice name is called "GrandPno" or Grand Piano which is the default sound when keyboard is turned on. I believe only the DGX/YPG keyboards have the Live Grand Piano voice.

Interesting use of the word digital.
BTW, Samples are digital.
CD's are digital.
DVD Movies are digital.

The fidelity of any sampled audio system to it's original analog source is determined by the
digital recoding techniques (mic placement, recording method, etc), sample rate, dynamic range (number of effective bits), anit-alias filtering, compression methods, if any, and finally the playback system (digital to analog), that in this case is an entry-level keyboard!

what he meant was that the sound likely created from scratch like when synthizers use multiple layered tone genarators blended with seperate attack and decay tones. This method can be used to "create" a piano sound without any piano recording at all. Cheap keyboards can also use very short samples like a 1/10th second recording of middle C recording, then loop and blend it over the whole 61 key range.

Digital can mean a lot of things, but I understood what guilux meant when he said digital sounding. I think he meant it sounded created rather than sampled. Now you can argue about how all sounds are "created" smile

yeah, there was a time back in the early 80's when pure analog synths were starting to be replaced by synths that had digital oscillators and noise generators but they still did everything else in the analog domain (to make those basic digitally produced waveforms simulate instruments.) A bit ironic how many modern KB's have samples of old analog synths-full circle really.
