I'm looking for a new digital piano. I'm very interested in the Yamaha P120s model but just wondering what else is comparable on the market right now.

I'm looking for something at least with weighted keys and a good piano/computer setup. Using it for all around playing and some composition.

Any help is appreciated. =)

Roland F-90 very nice digital piano.
Kawai EX is also a good digital.

Compare these two they are very different, but both are nice.

KJ..

Go try out a Technics P-50 somewhere. I have one that has had very little use, about 2 years old, with earphones, pedal, and speaker. Not using it at all, will make you a deal. Can meet in Seattle.

Not sure - my son has the Technics at his Dad's (where he is now), but I think os escribing our model, purchased new about three years ago.

It has saved his life musically. Although it is, of course, not an acoustic, there s very little key "rattle", and my son says it is better for his playing than our Baldwin upright, because the weighted keys.

Again, if I've got the model right, this instrument is very akin to a grand pianos (at least that's what he's practicing on to prepare for a lot on music events this year.

And ours is a portable (but portable only to Arnold Schwartzenegger). Please note, my son is quite up to the task in practicing and doesn't mind that this piano - same as cht's - doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the new models.

As I mentioned in my previous post I vote for Yamaha P-250. I sold my Kawai ESX for it. The ESX is really fine except mainly the polyphony. (try to make a palmswipe with the pedal down, you'll see...)
The P250 ha s an exceptional touch and sound really close to the real thing. It even has string resonance.. It has a built-in speaker and it is good enough that you don't need monitors.
It has all important computer links (MIDI in/out/through, serial and USB), built in sequencer (16 tracks) and a lot of voices. I use mostly the pianos. The one downside for those who gig: it is heavy...

The P120 is a good choice. For $300 more, the Roland FP5 is similar, with a lighter action, less bright sound and many more voices. Whether these features (Yamaha fans might call them "disadvantages") are worth $300 more to you is a judgment call.

Don't know about computer setup but the FP5 has a USB port and a great manual, so I imagine you won't have any problems.

F90 is nice but not as portable or flexible as the FP5. I've had both and the things I didn't like on the F90 were (1) no brilliance control and (2) not enough voices. Gotta have that guitar....
