Does anyone have any hands on experience with the older Yamaha Disklavier GranTouch DGT2IIXG? How good is it....pros/cons? The one I am looking at is at least 2-3 years old, hardly used, and in excellent shape.

Thanks,

GP

I don't have hands on experience, but its grand action and continuous sensors for the pedals make it cream of the digital crop.

The only reservaton I'd have concens its speakers. Like other Clavs, the largest speakers are too small to reproduce the lowest notes accurately. Usually you'd need a 10" woofer for reproducing down to 27.5Khz or whatever A1 is. Eight inches works well enough. The DGT's 16cm bass speakers are c.6" or 6.5". If that becomes an issue, it can be handled with external speakers.

Thanks FogVilleLad!.....I believe you are right...I have not heard it yet, will be going to see it this weekend. I called Yamaha up and asked about some info on it, and one of the last things they said, was that the built in speakers can be improved on by using external speakers! I have a great audiophile stereo system, so if I buy this, I will run the sound through my stereo speakers. I will have to buy a mixer

http://www.music123.com/Rolls-MX28-Mini-Mix--Stereo-Line-Mixer-i11842.music

to connect it to my amp/preamp, but thats not a problem.

Yes, the grand action and sensors should be first rate. I also like the idea that it's a Disklavier as well...Mk II I believe...it's not the newest, but I don't think I would gain anything by going with a MkIII, other than a higher price. The MK IV as I understand it, is really good and is probably the best out there now, but it's not available in the GranTouch Digital line, besides, it's way too expensive for me. Btw, the new model of this one I may buy is around 15K!! eek eek

Thanks,

GP

Looks like you'll have an instrument with a great action, realistic pedal behavior, and the tone of a concert grand. Bravo!
