Hi everyone, I've been looking for a used DP for my niece and nephew and I've been searching for something that is easy to learn on for kids around the age of 9-10. I found a Roland PT-2000 for about $600 but I can't find much information about it online. Can anyone help? I see a used one for sale at Jordan Kitts Music for about $1899.

Is this a good deal or should I wait and get something else?

This seems to be an older model. Digtial
pianos are essentially computers inside,
so they follow computer-like pricing--
a used one loses value fast, like a used
computer. But whereas a 10 yr. old
computer is barely usable on the internet,
a 10 yr. old digital piano will still be
perfectly satisfactory for everyday playing.
My neighbor has my old Korg C-800 console
that I bought new in 1989 for $1700.00.
It's still in perfect condition, and she
uses it to take classical piano lessons.
It sounds great too, with a purer sound
than the new digitals, since it has
less software bloat. But such a piano
is essentially worthless today.

$1899.00 is probably what the Roland sold
for new, and the store is trying to
hook a sucker with it. For that price
today you can buy a new digital that will
knock your socks off. $600.00 would be
if you're willing to be very generous
to the seller. A digital that old is
probably worth $300.00 or less.

Thanks for the reply Gyro. I think I will stay away from that DP.

We bought a Roland PT-2000 in Philadelphia from the Wilmington Piano Company in July of 2002. It cost $2009.

It has a modest cabinet (not wood) and limited instrument sounds. My wife chose it for its tone (passable) and its action (very nice). It has basic MIDI in and out, so I am reconfiguring it for her to use a modern piano sampler with a laptop, amp, good speakers, and phones.
