Hi All,

This is more first post, so i will begin by thanking those concerned for such a great site.

My wife and I live in the middle of australia in Alice springs. With ambient temperatures of up to 44 degrees C, and variable humidity, keeping an accoustic piano here is just not an option. So i am looking at digital piano's. I haven't spent much time looking at these for about 6 years and things have changed a bit since then. We had to give up our accoustic piano 18 months ago and my wife is starting to get a bit antsy about not playing. I want to get back into some recording but will need to practice a fair bit first as well so it seemed like a good time to buy.

I was looking at something pretty basic to start with and got offered a new Yamaha CLP 115 for AU$1700 (UKPounds - 680, US$1300). is this good?

I have read a fair bit about the 32 vs 64+ note polyphony, but i figured the CLP 115 might be a good place to start, with a veiw to moving to somethng gbetter in a few years when we have settled down and aren't moving house as often. if i spent more now, i think i would just be buying functionality that i am probably not ready to use yet and may get better between now and when i am ready to upgrade anyway?

Any thoughts?

Cheers - Jimmy

If your budget is restricted to $1300USD, then this digital piano be a good choice. Of course if you have money to play with, then the CLP120 would be better, and the CLP130 and CLP150 are of course the better instruments.

If you are not concerned with the look of the digital piano, you may want to try the Yamaha P120. You will need to buy a stand to set it on, but the piano sound is more realistic than that of the CLP115. Of course, you will ONLY get one pedal with the P120, versus the 3 pedals of the clavinovas.

With all the accessories, you should be in the neighborhood of the price of the CLP115, which by the way, is a fair price.

Good luck in your search!

Just thought i would let you know, I just bought a CLP120 from Allans Music in Adelaide. AU$2230 Delivered to Alice springs. Seems to be a pretty decent deal when copmpared to some of the prices i have seen on the net.

I will let you know how it goes when it gets here.

Cheers

Jim
