or someone who know enough to help...

ive got all these old wires. one is connected to a webcam. but they all are parallel port connections with a 'mouse-looking' connector or a midi connector.

can i use these to connect my piano to my computer? when i tried, nothing happened. the only cd that came with my piano just had a format converter on it. do i need a special driver that i have to find myself or something? nothing was found when i did a new hardware search.

i suppose i could just buy a midi-usb connector, but if i can get this to work, it would be very helpful. but for all i know, there might be absolutely no way this would work.

That is a MIDI Gameport connector, and would usually be connected to the soundcard in your pc, where you'd normally have your joystick/gamepad/whatever. If you connect it you'll be sending MIDI signals, not actual sound. To record antyhing you'll need a sample library that converts the MIDI signal into the sound of a piano being played.

I have a similar problem. I am using the gameport MIDI connector. MIDI out is working fine. But MIDI IN from my keyboard is not working. I know the keyboard is working, because I tried it with my laptop. So, it's either the MIDI cable (doubtful) or a problem with WINDOW/XP. How can I troubleshoot this problem?

Cyrus.

The MIDI cable you are showing needs to plug into the joystick port on your sound card, not the parallel port. The driver would also need to come from your sound card as well.

If this does not work, look for a USB to MIDI adaptor / cable. The one that I use came with cakewalk USB Music Pakc.

Believe in yourself,

I'm not sure what products are available in Singapore, but you might look for software that comes with a USB / MIDI adaptor.

Hope this helps.
