Whats so bad about Yamaha P85? #675612

This past weekend, I bought the Yamaha P85, and was pretty happy with it. My only problem was not really having a large number of reviews to base my purchase on. I simply visited Guitar Center and picked out the DP that I liked the best at this price point.

However, while I'm still able to return this DP, I want to make sure I made the right choice. After reviewing several posts here, I noticed that there aren't too many fans of the P85. Is there a particular reason i.e. is it not a good keyboard or will it not last? Are the Casio PX120, PX200 and PX320 better than the P85 (I don't want any of the additional features offered on these models)? Is the Korg SP250 better (I played this DP and was not impressed at all - didn't sound as good as the P85)? Should I save up for a more expensive model, i.e. the P140?

Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

You should try and base your decision on price point and feel/action..up to where it becomes a moot point..and any "extra features or fluff items won't matter to you.. smile just my 2 cents

Welcome to the forums,

If you are happy with it, then you've made the right choice. The biggest suggestion we can give anyone is try all the DP's you can in your price point and go with the one you like the best. The next biggest suggestion is to stick to name brands - like Yamaha, Casio, Roland, Korg, Kawai, etc.

swimfast59, congrats and enjoy your P85. My impression is, there are more reviews for the Casio upgraded models you mentioned because they came out before the P85. And some of the online retailers had some great sales.

I would hazard a guess that there will be more reviews of the P85 this fall.
Also, because Yamaha has more products than Casio at higher pricepoints, a lot of the energy and interest both in the dp playing public and in the trade publications is in the Arius or the new CP, CVP, CLP versions.

Thanks everyone for the good vibes. The P85 works like a charm. I don't even really know what MIDI is, so most bells and whisles don't matter to me. All I was looking for was a DP that feels and sounds like a piano. The P85 definitely fits the bill. And it looks great too! I can't believe I waited so long to get a DP.

My P-85 arrived about 4 hours ago..
Played on it for 2 hours, the touching is good, can't compare it to those yamaha grand pianos but its price says it all. Sound quality is not perfect but its acceptable, maybe one of the reason is the built-in speaker isn't good enough :|.
Though P-85 has quite "a few" less features than Px-320, but i still feel its a goodie for me as i will only use the piano function. Px-320's features look really amazing and the sound quality doesn't sound bad as well, but its just the case i'm getting what i need smile
