I went to a family reunion over the weekend and one of my uncles/cousins brought his korg sp-200. I just looked up his manual and I'm pretty sure he had it on the PIANO 2, BANK 2, Honky-Tonky setting. It sort of had that cheap, out of tune, Wurlitzer sound that I've heard at pianos commonly found in rest-home cafeterias. My relative was playing polka dance music with a drumset, accordians, and guitars.

My question is how do I get my CP-33 to sound like that? Someday I'd like to buy a MOTIF, MOTIF rack, or software piano, but maybe there's some way to tweak the settings on my CP-33. Also is there a midi sound box for around $100 used that has a bad(good) honky-tonk sound?

And is there another name for that type of music? I don't have a piano teacher yet, but maybe that would be a good style to ask for.

Thanks,

Ray

I use Grand Piano 2 (variation) with a little effect on tremolo or rotatry speaker. It's not really a honky tonk sound, but still. smile

I tried it at home tonight and the rotary speaker setting pretty much turns any of the pianos into a honky-tonk wurli sound. I also tried the tremelo with any of the mod-wheel settings but didn't get what I was looking for.

Now I just have to learn how to play a honky tonk tune.
