Does anyone know when the Yamaha P200 (Yamaha's top of the line portable digital piano) will be replaced with its successor? Or an average life cycle length?
The Yamaha dealer either does not know or does not want to tell me. Since it's an electronic device I want to get the latest model and the P200 has been out for 3 years now. I would not want to buy it if its replacement is to debut soon.

As with any "computer" based technology, guarenteed at some point, any model of digital piano or keyboard will become outdated. If you are going to wait for the latest model, you will either never buy anything, or never be satisfied.

Ask yourself why you need the latest model. If you just want to play, then any one will do. Our family made do with a Roland digital piano for 12 years before investing in an acoustic. And while I'm not necessarily condoning keeping a clunker, holding back is only delaying what you want to do most - play!

If keeping up with technology is the problem, one way out is to buy the model you are looking at now, and then down the road, picking up new or recent used peripherials such as sound modules or sequencers etc. to add to your existing keyboard which have the up to date technology you are looking for.

Don't delay - play!

Unless something else has come along, the P250 is Ymaaha's current top of the line. I've played a couple and I think they're quite nice, but alas, are way too expensive for my current budget for a digital.
As a side note, I played a Roland RD-700 the other day. WOW!!! Up to now I had never heard such a nice piano sound on a digital piano!! And, a Roland (don't remember the model # - it's in VA and I'm in CA) a friend of mine has (several years old at LEAST - wouldn't be surprised if it's a 1980s or earlier model) sounds worse than even today's cheap toy keyboards, to my ear.

fr,

The 200 has already been replaced by the 250. If you want to move up from there, you'll have to consider the PF500.

88, why are you digging up 4 year-old threads all over the place? confused This is the third or fourth one I've read across several forums here.
