I'm curious if digital piano makers change the product during the production life cycle?

For instance, the Yamaha PF500 is about 3 years old now. Has it been changed in any way during its production run?

Knowing that consumer electronics advance rapidly in that time frame, I expect significant improvements are available... which probably would be made in some new model/version rather than existing production units.

I know that new versions of the CLP series are presently being released... although perhaps not quite yet in the USA. I wonder if there's been any hype about new models/version of the pf series?

Also, anyone know when the Kawai CN series was released for USA distribution? I'm curious how far it is into its production life cycle.

speedy,

I have no inside knowledge. But I think I see the PF500 being pushed in the retail distribution channel. I infer from this that Yamaha may be flushing them out in anticipation of something new.

Phil,

I emailed MM privately about this and to paraphrase his reply, he expects no OS upgrade and does not expect it to be replaced anytime soon.

That being said, the product *is* 3 years old... and it would be easy to imagine that Yamaha has a replacement in the works. If that is the case, I'm sure Yamaha is holding this info close to the vest.

Perhaps I should bide my time...

'Course if my timing works as ususal, I'll buy *just* before the new product comes out. ;-)
