Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a computer software that allows you to play a cd
on the computer and the program displays the music score on the screen? I am asking about it just because I have a cd of easy-listening piano music that I really enjoy. However, I can't find the sheet music in stores. If a software can transcribe the music onto screen, then I can get the score.

I wish I knew because I would get it.

There are a few devices available to assist in music transcription. I do not believe they are as automated as you would like. For example, Reed Kotler has both hardware and software solutions to assist in transcribing. You can check his stuff out at http://www.reedkotler.com.

Um, I'm not a music dealer, and I haven't used the stuff on Reed's pages. So, I'm afraid I can't compare and contrast these to any other device on the market.

I have used notation programs like Finale and Encore that deal with moving from a MIDI keyboard to notation. I abandoned the use of these programs because of their inability to accurately portray a composer's notational intent. These days I work in pencil and am much happier because I don't put time into battling software deficiencies and/or bugs. I put it into the music.

A word of friendly advice: If you read through somebody else's transcription you will probably learn very little about the music. If you do the transcription yourself you'll learn a lot.
