I heard this a great digital, with one of the best 'actions' to be found anywhere. Is this true? In any case, what are its shortcomings, if any? I read some testimonials, but I can't be sure whether they were by real pianists or not. Thanks for any advice.

I have a Yamaha Grantouch DGT2A, which uses a grand piano keyboard with a slightly modified grand piano action that can be regulated somewhat (I had the Yamaha technician do it for mine). The Grantouch is still considered by many to be the closest digital substitute for an acoustic action, but at a price. I find its action better than an average upright, but falls short of my 6' acoustic grand.

To put it in perspective, I also corresponded recently with a person from Australia on rmmp who owned a Yamaha C7 and a Yamaha Grantouch GT1. He moved to Paris earlier this year and had to leave both behind, but bought a MP9500 there.

Here is what he had to say comparing the Grantouch vs MP9500:

"I like the sound (of the MP9500) better that of the GT1, and it has an impressive array of configurable sounds. So much so that I wonder if I will still have need of GigaStudio.

The touch is a little different to what I'm used to, and although it isn't as good as the GT1 I left behind, I *think* that it is one of the very few digitals that I could live with. But it does take some adjustment, and I would be wary of someone learning on it without also having access to an acoustic."

Thanks for the help, Roxane. Can I ask how much you paid for your Yamaha Grantouch DGT2A? The MP9500 goes for about $2000.

I do not know whether the prices in the US are comparable, but I paid the equivalent of roughly US$8500 for the Grantouch DGT2A 9 months ago. I believe it costs more in the UK.

Anyone know of good sources besides Craigs and EBay to find a 9500?
