What is your opinion of the Korg digital pianos and where are they made? It looks like Yamaha is manufacturing in China and Roland is manufactured in China.

dont like the home pianos .the smaller style ones seem ok

interesting, my digital is a 15 year old (ed correction, 17 years old, i got it in 88) korg, made in japan if i remember right but i will check, the thing is like new and has endured an incredible amount of abuse, practice and I have even taken the 100 pound monster on gigs... still like new, nothing wrong with it. truth be told, i am using an oberheim piano module called a mini grand with it, but as a controller, every key and all works like when i bought it... the oberheim module is 1996 technology, i have it goint through afairly large pa though.. impressive if you ask me... its been through alot yet never budged or let me down...

I also had a Korg digital upright, that I bought
more than ten yrs. ago. This was in the early
days of home digitals and it had unweighted
keys, since back then weighted keys were
something of a novelty. But other than the
unweighted keys it was superb, with exceptionally
pure sound and flawless workmanship. I played
it until 4 mos. ago, when I bought a new
Casio AP-31 upright with weighted keys.
After more than 10 yrs. it was still working pefectly.

The reason I didn't get one of the new Korg
uprights was that the Casio was too good
a deal to pass up at only 700.00, shipped
2nd day air, and also I wanted to try another
brand for something different, and I've always
been impressed with Casio's electric keyboards.
The new Korg uprights with weighted keys,
judging from my past experience with Korg,
must be excellent, especially in regard to
sound.

great post gyro, yeah, my Korg C5000 has weighted keys, it was, at the time, the bees knees! still plays pretty darn good to me... paid $2500 for it in 88! ouch!

This is my 1st post here, and great to see so much discussions on pianos here.

I have a Korg Ci9600 which i bought since 2 years, and paid half the retail price as it was a showroom piece. The sound of the various pianos are great, and it's with the weighted hammer feel. The attack sound is very nice, but to me it lacks the low bass notes, which could be due to the speakers and he speaker box itself. It sounds rather thin sometimes.
I'm layering the sound with an external Roland sound module, expanded with the module sound of grand pianos. A subwoofer has been added as well, so now I have a richer sound with the low notes sounding better. I'm playing it every weekend during my free time.

I've not checked where this model is made (Japan / China), but looking at it more and more things are being made in China, and it would be sooner or later that this would happen.

I'm now considering getting a real acoustic grand piano as I feel that the harmonics of an acoustic instruments is still not there in those digital pianos, and also the feel of the keys are not the same (based on what i've tried already). But may be there are some better newer digital pianos out there these days...

Roland is manufactured in either Europe or Japan.

Yes, ProPianoGuy is right I bought a Roland HP-103 before two weeks and its made in Japan. The absolutly perfect piano with great sounds. Roland is the best!
