Hi all. I've been lurking here quite a while, but this is my first post. My graduate studies are winding down & I'd like to get back into playing the piano. I can spend around $1k and I know there are plenty of options out there, but there is one that I can't seem to find anymore.

I'm all for getting the Casio PX-800 but the cabinet color is pretty bright and would stick out like a sore thumb in my house. The PX-720 has the features I would need with a much more neutral cabinet color. I know Costco had these for around $650 in the Fall/Christmas time frame, but not anymore. Are they available anywhere? eBay & Craigslist were strikeouts. Any specialty online stores that have them by chance?

I've been checking out other units too, the Roland FP-4, Yamaha P-140, etc. but I would really like something less portable/more furniture-esque with a keyboard cover. The Roland DP-990 would be ideal, but that's a big investment for a beginner. confused

It seems like the PX-720 was for European and Asian Markets. I do not know of any place in the USA that carries it (except Costco last year and they are long gone).

Less attractive but cheaper as well, check Bestbuy.com - they offer the PX-120 with the stand and the 3 pedals assembly for $599+tax

The Yamaha YPG-140 should be also in your budget.
I would avoid the Williams Encore before someone recommends it.

All that said, you better try by yourself and get what inspires you the most. Action is a critical aspect of the piano experience, the sound can be improved, through a sound module or a computer+software, but the action is what it is and will not improve ever.

Yes, I've seen the other PX models and I think they would be similar to the function of the PX-720/800, but their "form" is not as nice. But still an option. I think I would opt for the Yamaha P-140 over the other PX models though.

Hmmm...wonder if I can paint the PX-800?.... A paint/particleboard combination would probably be terrible.

I've tried several at the local Guitar Center. I'm very much still at a beginner level, so the feel/sound is not something I can feel confident about with any of them right now. I feel that whatever I get I will learn to love. Just need to get something that gets generally good reviews from you guys and doesn't break the bank.

@Guest1013- This might sound terrible, but I really want to stay away from that design. There is something about it that is not very appealing to me (with any of the brands). I'd like to stick with the more minimalist console-type units. I've got a smaller/more modern condo, so a piano to fit in as much as possible would be ideal.

Well, as a brief update, I spotted a new Roland DP-990 on eBay for $1400. I snatched it up quickly and am waiting for its arrival. Quite excited! Thanks for your help guys!
