My Grandma was a piano teacher, so I've been playing the piano for the past 16 years or so (I'm 21 now). I have an upright at home, but as I am living at my other grandma's appartment while I go to university, and so I need something to practice on during the week. My uncle has a digital piano (I think it is a Yamaha.) It plays, and sounds just like a grand piano, but has like 100 other instruments that can be used, and you can record stuff onto a floppy disk and upload to it I think. It is sorta like the cabinet ones these days, except it is plastic, and looks plastic.

Anyway, since I've always played on an accoustic, I have no clue about digital pianos. Plus, I will be getting the upright piano when I move out and have a place big enough for it, so I don't want to spend a ton on a digital. All I need is one that will sound like a piano, and play like a piano, and have internal speakers or whatever, since I don't really have room for external ones. Portability is not an issue, as it will not be moved around. I was hoping to get what I need for under $500 canadian, but after reading through the forums here, I see that is like trying to buy a laptop for that much. Just isn't possible.

So what would you folks suggest? Also, anyone know where to go in the Fraser Valley/Lower Mainland (in BC, Canada) to get one at a decent price?

you probably cannot get any digital piano with such amount of money, and at most you could get is a decent keyboard.

Casio AP31 may be the lowest priced decent digital piano in cabinet style you can get.
In the U.S, they sell for around 600-700 new.
Or Casio PX400 which is stage piano type with music arranger function. It sells for around 600 too. If you are really looking for rather transient use, try ebay. There are tons of used digital pianos that would fit your budget easily. Some of them are very high quality too.
