I've found an old Yamaha CLP200 being offered for $500. It took me a while to even find a good reference to this model on the internet because it is quite old, especially by electronic standards. It was apparently manufactured in 1986. Does anyone know anything about this instrument?

TIA!
Salli

it sounds too old. digital piano technology has advanced quickly every few years, so that i guess that old one isn't really worth buying anymore.

Salli,

Here is a link that has the release dates of Yamaha keyboard products that may help in your search:

Thank you very much, Hawk. That confirms my other source which indicated that this model is from 1986.

I understand what Signa is saying about the technology being quite behind the times. However, since all I really want is to be able to play it as though it was a standard acoustic piano BUT be able to output the sound to a headset so that I can practice "soundlessly," does the outmoded electronics really matter? I'm just thinking that the age of it should give me a big bargaining chip to lower the price.

I guess I'm just wondering if there are other things I should be aware of that, in my ignorance, haven't occurred to me.

I agree with signa on the CLP200. Five hundred dollars is a very large amount of money for a digital piano that is almost 20 years old. The CLP200 doesn’t have many features either according to the info on Yamaha’s website. Please see the CLP300/CLP200 manual at the following:

http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/emi/english/cla/CLP300E.PDF

I believe the Casio PX100, as signa recommended, would be a much better buy: a new digital piano with no wear & tear on the mechanics and electronics (when compared to the CLP200). You also get several years of technology improvements with the purchase of a new digital piano plus a warranty.

If you can afford several hundred dollars more, I would recommend a Yamaha P120. You should be able to get a new P120 with a stand and bench for about $1,250 (US) or less. Additionally, to date, the P120s have held their value extremely well based on my observations of ebay auctions.

Hope this helps…good luck!
