I'm looking to buy a digital piano so I can practice at night without disturbing the family.
There is a local seller who has a "still in the box" Roland HP-1 which he wants to sell for $650.0. Is that a reasonable price?

I don't see a lot of comment about the HP-1 around here. Is it a bad one to get?

Thanks for your input.

It is the bottom of the just superceded Roland HP series-now replaced by HP101, 103, 107 etc. I had an HP2 (the model above HP1) for a couple of days and returned it for my current Yamaha PF500 last year. I found it did not make a full enough sound for me and I did not really like the light touch, plus it sounded very flat with headphones. But it is a personal choice so try it if you are able and see how it feels and sounds to you. Also think what level of a pianist you are-if intermediate or above I think you would feel limited by it. Can't comment on the price because I am in Australia.

Thanks for the info. helenh. As I said, I only need a practice keyboard at night. So I don't need a fancy one. I called a local dealer today and they gave me a price of $1,500 for a HP-1. I am just wondering why an entry level piano can cost that much, compare to others such as Yamaha P120 which only costs about a thousand bucks.

If you need it just for practice at nights then you better go for a portable keyboard without built-in speakers as you probably gonna use headphones. That will be much cheaper for an equal or better sound quality. I ve never tried it but P120 is said by ppl here to be very good (and it even has speakers). I d also give a look at the brand new roland rd300sx (without speakers).

$650 for the HP-1 sounds like a clearance price as it's being replaced by the newer HP-101. If you want something to practice w/o disturbing others, the Yamaha P90, P120 or Roland RD300sx are probably better choices. No cabinet, easy to move around. All you need are good headphones, a stand and bench.

Yup, the P90, 120 or Roland RD300sx are better choices. However, it will cost at least $1000 compare to $650.

I checked the HP1 today. It's not bad. The only thing I don't like is that I don't see any head phone jack. The owner is willing to sell it for $500.

The phone jack is probably underneath the keyboard, to the left.

Yes, dezafinado, there are two headphone jacks underneath the keyboard to the left.

I got the piano anyway. Can't beat it for $500.

Thanks.

Thank You.
I have a question for you PPBC. Why would an home digital piano as the HP series are cost more than the pro- series such as RD300sx or FP3?
The retail price for the HP-101 is around $1500-$1800? What are the differences?
Thank You for your input.

Trihai
