I have a Clavinova CLP-560. I've noticed that occasionally when I'm playing a chord with the pedal down, then release the pedal and play a nw chord as I depress the pedal, I'll hear a sudden decrease in the volume of the new chord.

That is, the new chord will play at a louder volume, then make a quick decrease.

Does anyone know about this? Firmware bug?

there are definitely bugs in the Yamaha sustain algorythms (at least in my P120). I have noticed something similar to what you describe. For instance, sudden decreases in volume, often when another note is introduced (even if that new note is played softly). When it happens, it is a pretty unpleasant effect. I have been able to recreate these bugs too, so it definitely isn't a matter of me messing up.

when I try to use the Sustenato and Sustain pedals together, i often encounter a multitude of these volume adjustments. It definitely gets confused, and I don't think it is a matter of headroom, since it happens on very soft and delicate passages.

Hi all..
Another possibility is the polyphony limitation problem. Eventhough it is 64 voices polyphony, the number of notes that can be sounded full at one time is dependent upon the way layers of specific velocity samples are switched on. In many grand piano sounds, you may press just 5 keys but actual number of voices used are far more than that depending upon the velocity level. Suppose the sound constitute 8 voices(soft sample, median sample, loud sample, extra loud sample) but at normal velocity only 4 are switched on. But when you hit harder , it may use 6 voices depending upon the sound setup. In that case, you can have only 10 notes sounded at one time including notes on sustain. Remember, other nuances sound(thud, click, resonance sounds) also use specific number of voices too. If you hit another key, system polyphony maxed out and you will hear notes drop out. That drop out behavior may be dependent upon the software setting. If priority is given to louder voices, softer voices(like sustain sound, resonance sound) suffer voice chopped off. Velocity sensitivity is another factor here too.
Digital pianos are still not perfect yet.
