I just saw this on Musician's Friend website. Is this a follow-up to Yamaha's P80, or something that's been out there awhile? Seems sort of a mix of the p80 and p200. I've not been able to find anything more from the Yamaha website. Perhaps somebody here has more information. The information provided on Musician's Friend web site is not very detailed.

I have not seen the Yamaha P120/P120S in person but it is now described on yamaha's web site (www.yamaha.com). It looks similar to the P80 with the addition of a built-in amplifier and speakers.

Hello to All,

I own a p120 and it is absolutely superb. It is the bomb. The piano sounds and action are superb. Here are some features.

*88 Graded Hammer Weighted Action Keys
*22 MB 3 Layer piano's with sustain, string resonance, key off, and soundboard modelling
*28 preset instruments
*64 note polyphony.

and tons more, but those are the highlights. It is not the same as the p80. The p80 does not have the modelling the p120 has.

If you cant spend the money for the p120, then I would suggest to look at its little brother, the p90, which is ok, good piano sound.

Regards,

p120mAn

I didn't use headhones, and perhaps I would have noticed a difference if I had, but I didn't notice any difference between the 90 and 120 sound in the store when I tried them out (I settled on the 90). Magazine reviews say the 90 has a better sound. The 90 came out after the 120 and apparently Yamaha upgraded the samples.

In my opinion, the p90 and p250 have poor piano sounds. Both of them sound really bad to me. But this is personal preference.

Is the built in speakers sufficient enough for home use on the p120.

The p120 speakers are sufficient for practice but they are not very pleasant, they sound small and rather harsh. They do a poor job of accuratly reproducing the lower bass frequencies. The speakers in the P250 are twice as large, have twice the power watts and sound about twice as good. The P250 is Yamaha's finest digital piano to date.

Rintincop, I disagee. That is your opinion, of course. To me, the P250 is a piece of junk, period. This is personal preference.

The P250 kills the P120 in every way - it isn't even close.

The P120 is an adequate digital piano, but if you're looking for the finest, head & shoulders above all else keyboard in the Yamaha line, any line, really, that would be the P250.

The P250 can be gotten for around $1700 if you really bargain hunt, but it's worth every penny. The speakers in Yamaha's P series aren't great, but as has been pointed out already, adequate for practice. The P250's speakers are bigger and better than the P120's

The P120 is not a bad keyboard, but it can't hold a candle to the P250. The P250 is the flagship. There's not a better digital out there right now.

Again, thats your opinion.

The P250 to me is complete crap. I dont like it. I wasnt impressed with it.

The p120 is absolutely superb and in my opinion it beats the p250's ass.

With all due respect, p120mAn, your reply is childish and demeaning, and if it was your intention that people go out and buy this product, which would be perfectly fine at the lower price, you're seriously missing the boat.

I don't believe a person interested in making a comparison between one item and another, both quality, in my opinion, uses words like 'piece of crap', 'junk', and 'beats ass.' That person would have a serious credibility problem. Stating at the end, that it is 'your opinion' doesn't take away from the fact that your comparison is childish and silly.

Ever sit at a supper table with a child, and that child takes a bite of broccoli for the first time, and says, "Yech, this is horrible!" That's what you sound like.

Grow up.

Gary Joseph,

You must have extremely big problems. You seem to have a hard time accepting other peoples opinions. I am not childish, and my posts arent either.

Let me clear this with you. I HATE THE P250! If you cant accept that fact, then you are, im sorry, truly stupid, and childish as you would say.

Dont use big words with me, buddy. You dont intimidate me or affect me in any way with your so called "big boy grown up posts"

Grow up, little boy, and start accepting peoples opinions.

look at these two -- less than 25 posts between the two of them and they think they own the place!!!

P120, P250, P-whatever...
i don't like either one.

I was wondering about the differences between the P120 and P250... in particular:

Does the P250 also have the "half" pedal?
Are the keys on the P250 just as heavy as the P120?
Is the difference in sound quality significantly different when using headphones? I know the P250 has better speakers.
How much newer is the P250 than the P120? And do the numbers mean higher is better? Someone mentoined that the P80 or 90 (I forget which) was released after the P120.

Thanks!

Well I will add to this,
To play piano in the home the P120 wins hands down on looks which i think is an important issue.
The P250 looks wide and ugly but it does sound the best.
For me I would have to choose the S90 over the P250 and the P120 and only use it out.
But for in the home Im looking at buying the CLP170 which looks the best feels the best and sounds the best for my home use.

regards,
Daz
