At one of my schools, we are naming the computer lab in honor of a teacher who died right before Christmas. She had cancer and fought it very bravely. Does anyone have a song that can be sung that would fit this ceremony? The only one I can think of is "Wind Beneath My Wings". It should not be a religious song as that was done at her funeral. I am hoping those of you that are more into pop music can help me. Thanks, RickG

"Goodbye My Friend" by Linda Ronstadt. It's on her "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like The Wind" cd. Alot of choral groups do this one. It's a great song written by Karla Bonoff.

I was just playing "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton; an extraordinary, beautiful but simple tune.

Rick, this may not be helpful if you need something appropriate for a group, but here's a really moving solo that's been recorded by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman:

"Time to Say Goodbye" (or Con Te Partiro, in Italian)

I've heard a lot of tunes in my 46 years, and this is one of my favorites. The verse melody is flowing and very tender, but the refrain is noble, and tragically majestic.

Rick,
A beautiful number is "Fields of Gold" by Sting. A moving version was recorded by Sara Cassidy who died of breast cancer in her early years. It will move anyone to tears.
