Out of all the stimulus proposals, I like the Self Employment Tax holiday, and preferably for a full 12 months. Anything that will help a small business cut expenses is a good thing IMHO.

We pay a 15.3% tax on net business income. I'm assuming Bob means that we wouldn't have to pay that one year. It comes to 7 or 8 thousand a year.

That would be quite helpful indeed! I might actually be able to take a real vacation....

I agree. Contact your Senators folks. Let's make our wishes known to the people who can change things. (The way we want things changed)

I write my congressmen and women on a regular basis. I'm really getting sick of it. I see that it doesn't do any good.

For fun, I compare what I write to a friend and then, we compare notes on what we get written BACK from them. Guess what? We both receive the EXACT same letter every single time. It's a generic letter probably written to everyone.

They make it sound as if it is a very personal one on one letter, that they really have concerns about "our" concerns and then go on to explain why they chose to vote for it when we asked them to vote against it or visa versa.

This is very typical of congress. They do what they want, when they want, giving to themselves the best perks in the world, giving in to special interest groups and payoff's and guess who's paying the entire tab in the end? Hint.... It certainly isn't THEM!

So right Jerry!!! I keep wondering how long it will take people to wake up to these clowns!!!! But I've been wondering this for a long time.

I guess when we all get hungry, cold, and no transportation but a bicycle.

Actually the bicycle is a pretty good form of transportation. But when that's all ya got, well..then it is another matter!!!

Yes, it's happened before... things get to a point when those clowns are taken down (even for good reasons or just because another clown wants to own the circus). The problem is, new clowns have always appeared.

No system has worked and, in several cases, the cure was worse than the disease...

Yes, Erus, the problem is that humans tend to look out for themselves first. Now what was the title of this Topic?

Best stimulus for me has been this endless winter... the indoor humidity is down into teens now for those without humidifiers.

"the piano needs tuning"

Music to my ears.

They do get the humidity control talk - and reminded that when the humidity inside goes back to normal, the tuning will go with it...

Cheer up Jerry. Somewhere on a spreadsheet sits a tick mark that marks your complaint. The problem is, not enough tick marks join yours to make a difference.

If Congress and Senators had to fight for health insurance like us self-employed folks do, for sure everyone in the country would have coverage at reasonable rates. Congress is out of touch with the common US Citizen.

Our system always functions best when there are as few of those clowns as possible and our system has and will in the future work very well.
Capitalsts are either boom or bust as opposed to steady state poverty.
How soon will it be until one of them will dictate the price of a tuning - Tuners should never make more than (fill in the blank) Just this sort of thing has already begun.

Well, let's all "tick" them all by deluging them with emails about our complaints then! smile

Of all the taxes that I have paid, the one that I mind the least is the self-employment tax. I know exactly what it is, and I can account for it in my pricing and budgeting. I also know that I am likely to get it back. To put aside 15% for retirement seems reasonable, since these days we can expect a 40 year working career followed by a 20 year retirement. It seems even more reasonable when I see what has happened to my Individual Retirement Account this past year.
