I need to replace a bass bridge apron on a small upright. I have a chisel made to remove the bridge from the sound board. My question is, do I want to chisel with or against the grain of the sound board to get the best results, and without taking too much of the sound board off with the bridge? Thanks in advance.

I think I would try tapping the bridge sideways and if it didnt fall off get a blow dryer and heat the board up then tap again. A solid tap. Then the chisel. I'm not sure about the grain.

Most glues soften up with heat.
