Our son has been working off a casio keyboard and is ready for a piano. He is likely in this for the long haul. I need advice.

Two pianos, same price ($1500), same sound (as far as we can tell).

1. Young Chang, upright 5 years old. Only problem is wrong color for mommy's room:(
2. Studio Seginoff, 9 yrs old. right color, wrong brand? The Piano Book says INS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Brooksidemom,

I can see that this is your second posting so welcome to the forum. At $1500.00 I would think that you are below the entry level price from dealers, for new pianos in your area. There is no mention as to whether or not these are private sales.

While I have never had a chance to view a Seginoff, one would presume that if both instruments are the same price there would be very little difference in the quality.
The only other thing I have observed is regarding the colour, you may have to ask yourself; am I purchasing this piano for my son to discover the joy of music or am I purchasing this piano because I like the colour???

In other words buying an instrument based on look is never a good idea……….

I guess I am just too practical............
cheers

Thanks for your input Dan.

The seginoff is chinese made. It is by a p[rivate seller--but a private tuner--so probably closer to value.

The Young Chang is is private seller who bought for her daugthers who are now not playing.

Schmitt Music just called with a deal on the Christofori (Cinese made)black floor model for $1700 (reg 2195). It is the right color.

Am I am wrong in assuming that the base line Young Chang was made in Japan?

Taking the color out fo the equation (which you are correct--I should:) any more thoughts?

The one that your son likes to play best would be the one to purchase. He will most likely not play a piano he does not like. Go for sound quality and forget the rest…………….

Brooksidemom, I think Dan has given you some excellent adivce. Never buy a piano based on it's color. Also, I would recommend you have your tuner, give it a look, see. Just because you are buying from a tuner, does not in fact mean it's a higher quality, better working piano.
There are lots of tuners with pianos for sale, some are excellent pianos, some not.
