I posted this on the Piano Forum before I discovered this (perhaps more appropriate) forum.

I am fairly new to this board and most appreciative of the wealth of information that I've been able to find in my quest for a piano. After exhaustive research and coming to grips with my budget, I finally decided on a Petrof 125.

My dilemma is as follows:

I understand from some of the posts I've read that the Petrof dealer in NJ does not always prep their pianos well. They claim that they tune all their pianos, but regulation and voicing is dependent upon personal preference, etc, etc... However, the price they gave me on the Petrof 125 was significantly more attractive than other dealers in the CT/NY/NJ area.

1) Should I go ahead and get it anyway and have a tech "prep" it in my home?

2) Approximately how much could this cost on this new piano?

3) Does anyone have the name of a good tech in the CT/NYC area?

4) I may move overseas in the next few months, so should I even bother prepping now? (I am not sure if good technicians abound in the country to which I may be sent.)

Thanks so much for your input.

I am not actually sure of the country yet (hasn't been confirmed), but most likely Brazil or Mexico.

Once you know which country I can give you names of people I know of.

Or, I can give you the NJ tech

Brian,

Does it make sense to "prep" if I am moving overseas right away, or should I wait until after I move? If you recommend to do it beforehand, then I would like the name of the tech in NJ. Otherwise, I will wait until I arrive to my overseas assignment.

Petrof has dealers and supposedly tech in Mexico. The Petrof is a very Voicable piano. It responds well to quality Technicians. I would get it done here in the US and get to know your tech and how he/she approaches preping and voicing so you can have an intelligent conversation with the Tech in the Country yuou are going to. AND DON'T FORGET HUMIDITY CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
