I wored on a Mason & Hamlin AA yesterday. The owner told me there was a lot of room echo and reverb and she was not kidding. Room has a high ceiling almost like a small chapel. 3 big glass windows at the tail- piano is not in the sun etc or even close to windows. Floor is hardwood with only a small area oriental. Piano sits on some cheap, cheap plastic caster cups. So... what is the best way to tame the sound- I saw some acoustic foam baffles from a piano supply house that go under and up between the beams. since we may be installing a D/C foam here may not work. How about acoustic wall baffles with cloth like they use for home theaters ? anyone used this stuff and have a source for buying it ? Comeon someone out there must have seen this problem before ? Pianist is a SERIOUS classical player and I am sure she is going to be asking me for some solutions....

She needs to work on the room, not the piano. You can't do anything on the piano that will reduce the reverberation of the room. The only thing you can do is change your playing and pedaling, and that's not desirable.

This is of interest to me because I'm contemplating putting an AA into a room that sounds similar - 10'x17' with sheetrock walls and ceiling and a concrete floor, lots of windows, 10' ceilings. Would appreciate knowing what you end up doing.
thanks - jim

THe foam baffles that fit into the understructure of the piano make a small difference; as does a string cover.

My suggestion would be area rugs, plush furniture, and tapestries. Anything to thwart the soundwaves bouncing from wall to wall.
