Hi All,

I am in a process to consider buying a 1983 Steinway M (without Teflon bushing)with good and origional condition from a private owner. I would very much appreciate if you can tell me what is the reasonable price for this vintage. The owner is only willing to go down to $22000. Is it a reasonable price? This is comparable or even higher than a new Yamaha C5. Your opinon is greatly appreciated.

PS. The piano seems not been heavily used and in original condition with two string replaced. When a piano of this type need to be rebuild/restored/refinished (i.e. strings replaced, action replaced or modified)?

Thanks

Jim

If you consider a lot of used M's go for mid-teens, which are much older, you could conclude that to go just over 20,000 for one that is recent, and in the condition you describe, is worth it.
