Hi all,

DO you have recommendations for a good quality tuning fork? or any other advice about tuning forks?

Thanks

If you're just starting out, the big aluminum forks are nice and easy to hear. Unfortunately, they are very sensitive to temperature, so your A will be off unless you calibrate it carefully. It's good to calibrate it to your body temperature, probably the only constant that you'll have access to (especially in MN!). I put mine under my arm while I'm putting my temp strips in.

The chrome plated steel forks are less sensitive to temperature fluctations, but they're not as loud. Better still is the Sanderson Accu-Fork -- but it's $150.

If you can find one, the big Deagan forks were the best, but they are not made any more. Go with the chromed steel forks, but you may have to rub your fingers along the bottom sides to damp out the extraneous high tone on them. Listen to them by touching them to the bone below your ear, and the volume will not be a problem.
