Ever pull up to a gas station and find the station is completely out of gas? Happened to me a few weekends ago, I drove on down the road to another station filled up then continued my journey.

I realized that the car is complete junk if there is no gas supply, a sobering thought considering the payments left on it….

I figure it is about time to use the bike for the local errands;
Unfortunately I don’t have the trailer to do this… http://www.bikesatwork.com/hauling-cargo-by-bike/ (yet)

I know of a store that can no longer sell gas because of the price. They are waiting for a dial that goes over $3.99.

A recent article stated in the US we drove 1.4 billion miles less in April 2008 compared to April 2007...

No clue how they measured this, but it makes you wonder about supply and demand as well as record oil profits...

Whats shameful is if you compared North Americas' gas usage to most other countries in the world you would find we are probably using close to half of all the gas out there. I remember people in the East Bloc countries back 20 years ago looking at me like I was from Mars when I told them I commuted 80 km each way to work every day. Most of them could barely afford to drive that much in a week, with good jobs I must add. Add all our recreational vehicles, long holiday trips, weekend jaunts and our love for gargantuan vehicles(usually driven alone) and we are indeed have wasteful mentality with a non renewable resource. These higher prices do have the positive effect of sobering up this line of thinking/waste.

Switched to E85 this past spring in my GM vehicle. I know its gotta be a good thing because the oil minister of Saudi Arabia condemned it. Viva bio-fuels.

I'm weary of any idea that requires government to chip in. Good ideas stand on their own, without reaching for taxpayer money:

Oh come on. Every government in the world is involved in the Petro-Oil industry in one way or another. Except maybe, Brazil. They went totally bio-fuel back in 1980. But just last month, their state-owned bio-fuel company, Petrobras, announced a deal with Japan to open and supply 10,000 ethanol fuel stations there. The poor Saudi oil minister complained that it'll likely drive up their food prices as more farmers divert crop production... the aspiring corn-sheiks here in the midwest say, "Let them eat sand."

How many people here would buy a car that looks like this?

www.aptera.com

If it got 300mpg, I would not hesitate! thumb

Hmmm...A Boston Tea Party for the Automobile Industry....

We could all dodge traffic and ride on horseback and bicycles to the harbour, with non oil consuming torches ablaze, and toss a few automobiles in the water. I could see all the Auto execs and CEO's losing sleep over this.
Nice bug Tooner...lol...I used to have one in the 70's like that..dried flowers hanging from the rearview. I did like the instant on gas heater they had and the lovely sound of that air cooled 4 banger...like driving a Cesna 150 with the wings clipped.
