I have been attempting to get tech support for a Baldwin Concertmaster system. I have called the factory, and left many messages. Does anyone out there have a better contact, or had success in actually geting tech support from Baldwin??

Or - is there anyone else in the NJ area who would like to take this service call?

Hi David,
I'm not completely sure, but as I recall the Concertmaster had affiliations with QRS Musical Technologies. Maybe you could try calling them.

QRS # 800.247.6557

Good Luck

We seemed to have had similar luck getting a hold of tech service folks for Baldwin.

Since Balwins most recent bankruptcy a few years ago, QRS and Baldwin have not exactly been on the most friendly terms. Ironically enough, Gibsons recent purchase of the Dongbei factory in China, essentially means Baldwin is now heading up QRS's Story & Clark production!

The new Baldwin Concertmaster system is a product of a newish company called Pianoforce . I only found this out after pulling the cover off the solenoid rail and seeing their sticker. At that time, their website wasn't up yet, and there was no way to reach anyone their. It seems they've since upgraded their site though, and are hopefully trying to upgrade their support capabilities as well. Speaking with one of their techs at the convention in Rochester, I learned that this company apparently did manufacture a number of front ends in the past for QRS. (such as the Serenade CD, which the Pianoforce unit is remarkably similiar to) The tech seemed excited about some new features and ideas for the future, and receptive to suggestions from those in the field.

What particular problem is this piano having?

I truly appreciate you all taking the time to provide me with some feeback and alternatives. This forum is quite the resource.

The unit plays for about 20 or 30 minutes and just shuts down, and eventually plays again. Im thinking its a head unit or power supply problem. The cd tray is also tempermental, and at times refuses to open.

It is a brand new Hamilton grand, and the customer has moved here to NJ far away from the selling dealer. The unit is still under warranty, so I would think Baldwin would take the responsibility....if i could only get them to take my calls!
I know I can call QRS or Pianoforce - and I guess thats what Ill have to do, but I dont think they are going to send me a free head unit or power supply for a piano they are not responsible for.

Another possibility is that some of the solenoid plungers are stuck or sluggish inside the barrel. The system likely has a shut-off system, to protect against overheating solenoids. When you remove the action, you should be able to pull the plungers up and drop them down, feeling little to no resistance. If that's not the case, you may be able to try swapping plungers into different barrels until they are all in a barrel where they can move freely. If that doesn't work, you may need to lightly sand the plunger with very fine grit sandpaper, or even steel wool. Do not try to lubricate, I promise you will be called back before too long.

Check to see if the tray is tracking properly. Sometimes the outside of the tray drawer, can get caught on the inside of the cover, and needs to be nudged to one side or the other, in order for it to open freely.

If the piano is new, it is definitely a Pianoforce system.
