Some of the keys on my new Petrof V have a decidedly metallic sound. Almost like someone left their screwdriver in the piano.

My piano tech, who seems very knowledgeable, is working on voicing. He has put pin pricks in the hammers and slightly raised some of the strings.

I do like the overall sound of the piano, despite these offending keys.

Has anyone encountered this?

Thanks very much, mrloaf77. I did ask my tech about that, but he didn't think that was the problem. He worked on leveling the strings and poking a needle in knots in the hammers.

I have a suggestion although I am no expert... I have noticed what I think may be the same sound on a couple keys on our newly acquired M&H AA. I think the problem is one of tuning. I did some research and checked the offending notes with my daughters electronic tuner. It looks to me as though at least one of the strings on the offending notes is slightly out of tune. I am waiting a couple more weeks for the piano to acclimate before having it tuned for the first time in our home. If you have this checked and it works please let me know. I will do the same if I get to it before you do.

Thanks, Verdi. I have had the piano tuned, and the offending notes were actually tuned twice. Still metallic sounding.

What section of the piano do you hear this in?

I don't mean to hijack Shoshana's post but I am interested in trying to find an explaination so if I may.... In my case the offending notes are around middle C +/- and octave or so....

mettalic sound is defenently a voicing problem... hammerheads are too hard.....your tech should make it softer...
