Hi all!

For those who are wondering what Earl Wild is up to these days, or for those who might be interested in hearing a Shigeru Kawai EX on record:

A new CD has just been released by Ivory Classics called Earl Wild at 88. The recording was made last summer, and has just become available.

Ivory Classics sells it direct at www.IvoryClassics.com Amazon shows it as coming available later this month.

There is some pretty amazing playing by Maestro Wild on this CD. Would that I could play at 48 like he plays at 88!

And then there are some of us who no matter what we do, will never play that well... frown

It's nice to see that the great old man found at least another great piano after playing for 55 years apparently only exclusively on Baldwins...... mad

In addition to his virtuosity and musicianship, when I've bought Earl Wild's CDs, it's also been to enjoy the Baldwin piano sound. Great! smile

This is a terrific CD on all counts. The playing is wonderful, it's extremely well mic'd and lush sounding, and the sound of the Shigeru Kawai he's playing id delectable. I've enjoyed it immensely.

Hey Rolland,

Thanks for the note. I've listened to it quite a few times since I first got it as well, and still enjoy it. How do you like his rendition of the "Mexican Hat Dance?" Stresses out the stereo system.

Oh, forgot to mention . .

Mr. Wild will be performing at the Kawai dealer dinner during the NAMM show. That will be next Thursday night at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

He will be playing the same Shigeru EX used for the recording. Another one will be in the Shigeru Kawai booth at the NAMM show. I'll be hanging out there, if anyone would like to come say hello! Room 304D.

Last I shopped, a Shigeru dealer gave me a Jazz CD recorded with a smaller Shigeru as part of their promotional package. Very nice recording for sure (and seeing that I had to drive 200 miles on my way back from the Shigeru dealer, the CD provided much on-the-road entertainment thumb ).

May be Mr. Wild's CD (or just about any classical music CD with a non-EX Shigeru) can make an even more convincing demo to the classical crowd? (I wondered at the time whether the Shigeru folks were targeting the Jazz or Classical crowd.) wink
