Hi everyone?
My son is 11 years old boy, now he is playing impromptu fantasy. does his teacher or me push him too hard? his sight reading is pretty good, his fingers are long and fast, but he can not bring much music as I expected. what should I expect 11 year old boy do? is that good to play some difficult songs for him if he could really handle them after practising?
HOw could he can improve himself for play more musically? one more question, just curious, why his teacher asked him to stop one song for two weeks, then will start again and prepare for audition. I guess that it is for refreshment, any other reason for that?
Really appreciate your help!!!

I've heard several 11 year olds play the Fantasie-Impromptu. If your son seems happy, let him be. If he seems miserable, then maybe there's a problem...

"If we continually try to force a child to do what he is afraid to do, he will become more timid, and will use his brains and energy, not to explore the unknown, but to find ways to avoid the pressures we put on him." (John Holt)

Sounds like the teacher may have spotted a bad habit your son has developed (in that piece.) Best way to get rid of it is to play something else for a while.

Just my $0.02 but I think it's probably better (considering he's trustworthy) to take the teacher's word on it than a bunch of strangers over the internet. We can help, but only so much. His teacher (again, assuming he's a good teacher) will always be much better at setting goals and limits.
