Hi everyone!

I'm doing a little better now that my horrible algebra class is over. I think I came out unscathed with a C+ or B-, if I'm lucky. I'm on school vacation until 12/4 and then I have a mini-vacation after Christmas until January 8th. I'm also on a badly needed work vacation until November 26th. My boss wants me to use up about 3-weeks worth of vacation time by the end of the year. He didn't have to twist my arm, believe me. \:D I only wish I could play more. The desire is there, but the coordination isn't all the time. I do have some good days so I look forward to those more than anything else. The increased medication has helped quite a bit, but this has taken nearly 2-months to finally get me where I was back in July with 4-1/2 pills a day. Yes this is scary, discouraging, and depressing.

Anyway, I'll keep tabs on the forum now that I have more free time.

Hi John!

Sounds like you'll have some time to recoup both physically and musically! \:\) That's good. I was wondering where you were but you must have been working very hard with classes and work.

Nice to see you back and posting.

Hey John,

Good to hear from you, and I hope you get to relax and enjoy your break. When you mentioned the class you've just finished, it made me think of this recent news story:

At New York's JF Kennedy airport today, an individual later discovered to be a public school teacher was arrested trying to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a setsquare, a slide rule, and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Michael Mukasey said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He is being charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.

"Al-Gebra is a fearsome cult,", Mukasey said. "They desire average solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in a search of absolute value. They use secret code names like "x" and "y" and refer to themselves as "unknowns", but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. "As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, there are 3 sides to every triangle," Mukasey declared.

When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes. I am gratified that our government has given us a sine that it is intent on protracting us from these math-dogs who are willing to disintegrate us with calculus disregard. Murky statisticians love to inflict plane on every sphere of influence," the President said, adding: "Under the circumferences, we must differentiate their root, make our point, and draw the line. These weapons of math instruction have the potential to decimal everything in their math on a scalene never before seen unless we become exponents of a Higher Power and begin to factor-in random facts of vertex."

Attorney General Mukasey said, "As our Great Leader would say, read my ellipse. Here is one principle he is uncertainty of: though they continue to multiply, their days are numbered as the hypotenuse tightens around their necks."

John, so good to hear from you again. Enjoy those three weeks of vacation. Hope your health improves and that you will once again be able to enjoy playing the piano.

Signa has it right, Algebra is easier than Bach. However, if I recall correctly from your previous posts, John, you don't have much problem with Bach. Lucky you. Gaby Tu

I wish I had three weeks of work vacation in a row, but that's not the case. I have to go back in between, and occasionally I get called in to help out during my time off. The company only has 12 people so it's kind of difficult when someone is out.

@Gabytu - Bach has gottem me into a snit often enough. I've actually had a better time with Scarlatti and Handel than with Bach. I discovered that the slow practice is thing that helps here.

@Monica - Algebra is horrid and you are right. NEVER AGAIN!!! \:D \:D If I could jump up and down, I would! I got a B- after all. I just checked my grade so it didn't kill my GPA too bad. I started with a solid 4.0 and started the algebra with a 3.89 so now its down to a 3.4. I'll take this any time.

@Michael - Thank you for the very punny story. This had me laughing out loud!

Hi Ralph! I'm back in business sort of. When I get those good days, I put in as much time as I can at the piano and clavichord. Thank you again for the recordings. I keep listening to them over and over.

Hi Sophia - I'm enjoying my vacation very much. \:\)

@Signa - Bach is not easy by any means. The slow methodical practice is really what helps a lot. Algebra is really the same - a lot of practice. I like Bach a lot more than algebra though, which probably explains why I am better at the music than math. ;\)

Welcome back to the Forum; it's good to "see" you here again. I hope that all continues to go as well as can be expected under the circumstances. Your determination to profit from the good days is a lesson for all of us! Thank you for that.

I'm trying my best - ya know keeping that stiff upper lip and trudging along.

Thank you. That math was a really dreadful experience. The class was only 5 weeks, but the instructor crammed a full semester's worth of algebra in 4 weeks. I spent more time doing homework than even sleeping. The worst thing was the stupid online practice program and testing. I had to draw graphs with a tremulous hand. Try lining up a ruler between two points, get it almost right, then twitch. It would take me upwards of an hour to get a graph done. Then add insult to injury the system would pull a pop quiz, and have me answer questions about stuff I learned 2 weeks before! This was while I was struggling just to get the homework done! No fun at all is all I can say.

Hi Bassio. how are you doing? \:\)

It is indeed good to hear from you again, John.

Now that you've finished the course, no one will have to cosine your next loan. Whoops, that's trigonometry, of course .... \:D
