What is the best, most clear edition of the Liszt sonata in B minor? I am debating between the urtext and the Joseffy edition (Schirmer); which is more reliable and recommnened?

Dover publishes an excellent edition, edited by Jose Vianna da Motta, one of Liszt's most foremost pupils. Like the Busoni edition of the edutes, da Motta takes a very musicological approach and arrives at an even more authoritative edition than Henle (I feel that Henle's Liszt Sonata is one of the firm's shortcomings and certinaly one of its most thrown together projects). Stay away from the Schirmer, also. Cheap, but you unfortunately get what you pay for.

If you can afford it, this piece has already been published in the Neue Liszt Ausgabe, but I'm not sure which volume.

I know nothing of Liszt and the sonata, but I remember reading that the people at Henle were the ones who went searching desperately for the original manuscript of the B Minor Sonata... and their edition is still that bad? haha I wonder why... smile
