I have to say that you're a bit too predictable. Come on, why do you always mention the Wagner?

Far more (or less) interesting, by contrast, are Schonberg's early fugues. I think he was a wonderful late-to-post romantic composer in his earliest period, but we never hear him!

Gotta say that's a bit uncalled for. You're basically coming down on somebody for expressing what they like to listen to. Who are you to question their taste?

Live & let live. I also notice *you* didn't post your list. How about I come down on you hard for liking a particular piece?

Sheesh...

Strat, are you addressing FV's "critique" of JS for mentioning the Wagner ... or JS for his list of "favorites"? wink

No. I'm saying FV's comments were below the belt for no reason whatsoever. We should be able to express what we like without fear of some unprovoked jabs from people who might disagree with our tastes.

I have restricted my selections to works for solo piano. The following list is not ranked; pieces are listed alphabetically by composer.

Beethoven
Piano sonata #14 in C Sharp Minor op. 27 no. 2
Piano sonata #23 in F minor op. 57
Piano sonata #26 in E flat major, op. 81a

Chopin
4 Ballades
Barcarolle
12 Etudes, op. 10

Mozart
Piano Sonata in A Minor, K. 310
Piano Sonata in F Major, K. 533/494
Piano Sonata in D Major, K. 576

Schubert
Wanderer Fantasie

If I were to consider works for piano and orchestra and/or chamber music with a piano part, the list would be different.

Okay, this was the best I could come up with. Very passionate music, I'm a passionate guy!

Haydn- E minor Sonata
Beethoven- Op. 109
Schumann- Fantasie, particularly when Martha plays it.
Liszt- Benediction de Dieu dans la solitude
Rachmaninov- Etude in Eb minor, Op. 39 #5
Scriabin- 4th Sonata
Moszkowski- Course Folle
Elgar- Carissima (works well if the pianist can deal with it.)
Prokofiev- 3rd Sonata
Britten- Young Apollo, okay- piano & strings. But incredibly exciting, very erotic. (Prep for Billy Budd.)

Since I'm warming up my Concorde, meet me in front of the Spasskaya Tower in exactly four hours.

And while we're at it, would you consider a supersonic transport more than a cigar as well?

And yes, I won't forget the Cubans...
