I love the Stooges, and I was rewatching some of my favorite shorts on YT and came across some funny music related things I'd forgotten about.

Professor Shemp Howard, teacher of voice with accompanist Larry and a horrible soprano (Brideless Groom):

(Later in part 2, they lose the wedding ring in the piano, and the lid falls on Shemp as he attempts to retrieve it)

Larry breaks into Rachmaninoff's Op. 3-2 Prelude at 0:54 (Hula La La):

Crooked exterminators Moe, Larry, and Curly infest a high society mansion with mice, moths, and ants. Then they knock on the doors as exterminators. But since a party is in progress, they must hide the cats they brought for mouse catching. So Larry and Curly put them in the piano (Ants in the Pantry). It's in Part 2, from about 0:29 and then again at about 3:50:

There are others, but I figured that would get us started off.

Just what I needed on a gray afternoon -- the Stooges! For me, it only works with Curly; Shemp, Curly Joe and Joe add nothing to the soup. I hoped to respond with my favorite Stooge moment -- the "Slowly I turned" bit where Moe (I think) goes psycho every time someone says Niagara Falls, which reminds him of a lost love. But they've pulled it off of YouTube, and I don't have time to go on a hunt.

Anyway, it's nice to know that there's a fan base for these characters here in Piano World. Thanks for brightening the day. laugh

Overall, I like Curly best as well. But Shemp's pretty good. Things went way downhill with Joe. frown

There's a PW member named Moe Howard. Of course, everyone already knows about Larry Fine.

That's the one, all right -- thanks for passing it along. To return the favor, I offer another classic Stooges "moment musicale": "Punch Drunk", in which Curly plays a hopelessly hapless pugilist who suddenly turns crazed killer whenever he hears "Pop Goes the Weasel." Enjoy! thumb

Thanks! That one's a classic. The second short they did, and the only one they wrote themselves. wink

I love the duel between the kid and the guy manning the bell...and Larry's valiant effort to get Pop Goes the Weasel back after his violin got broken.
