I'll let some Philly friends know. I have a recital to give in Lynbrook today at 3pm, so I'll zip a few emails early on.

Rich :

This is one event I would be eager to attend, were I still in the area. I have Roberts' book: Images: The Piano Music of Claude Debussy as well as one of his recordings.

He is a great scholar and a fine pianist.

Which piano is he going to be performing on?

Best regards,

BruceD

Ah, he's the teacher/mentor on from the 'Play It Again' programme discussed in this thread:

Seemed like a very nice man!

edit: the excerpt from his lecture-DVD on the page below is well worth watching, he explains the workings of La Cathedrale Engloutie to a remarkable degree. Think I'm gonna have to buy it now laugh

Bruce,

Maybe you can still hop a quick flight to Philly. wink

He will be playing on period instruments. I wish we had a Pleyel or Erard from that period, but he will have to choose from a Bechstein (1902) or a Bosie (1910 or so).

Follow up:

Mr. Roberts chose the 1902 Bechstein to perform on and he is quite a player. The best part of the afternoon though was hearing his thoughts on the music he played.

The group was intimate so there was actually a good chance for dialogue as well. What started as a lecture wound up being a discussion - and most who attended knew wha they were talking about. The afternoon was a success.

I am just sorry I posted so late. smile
