When I went to Hawai'i, I had a weird experience. They had radio channels, so I naturally went to classical, They had some minor works and the 3rd piano concerto of beethoven. The first time I listened, I did not "feel" anything. It was just pretty music with some catchy tunes. The second time, I began to feel some foundations. The 3rd time I "understood" it. And now, I love it! Which brings me to two questions:
1) Do you have to listen to particular large-scale works more than once to "understand them and to love them? Or do you just love them after one-hearing? My belief is that there are some large-scale works that need more than one listening to be truly appreciated, right?

2) How would you rank the Beethoven concerti from 1 to 5? (1-less appreciated, 5- most loved)

1) Yep. It's not that unusual. It took me a couple of episodes to get into West Wing (had to learn the characters' names, backplot, etc...), but now I'm totally hooked.

2) I would rank the five Beethoven concerti as follows:

#1 - The one I'm listening to, playing, or accompanying at the moment.

The rest are in a four-way tie for #2.
