Here's a piece I just recorded half and hour ago. It is a 20th Century composition called "Hommage", written by the French composer Maurice Dela.

Honestly I really have no idea what I'm doing with this piece. It's the first new 20th Century piece I've ever played, so I was a bit confused when I started to learn it. My teacher says I'm on the right track, though. Let me know what you think!

Maurice Dela - Hommage

A few things to listen for:

4:19 - My little brother Joshua distracting me, hence the horrendous mistake. mad

4:32 - Joshua being strangled. laugh

What did you strangle him with, your feet?

Very good recording, BTW. thumb

Lovely piece, NAK, pretty much in the vein of Debussy but with a more improvisational feel to it. It's quite lovely, indeed. You're so brave to post like this. I thought it well played considering it is a new piece for you. You'll refine it and show it to us again, I'm sure! laugh

Wow! Listening to the piece now, just heard the strangle, which was beautiful ;D hehe... I didn't even notice your "horrenderous mistake" at first. Anyway, well played! I thought it was very very beautiful... a little hard to get into at first, but I liked how it developed. A calm piece of music... I'd like to see the sheet music sometime.

NAK - very nice. Usually I'm at work when I'm on here (trying only to read/post when I am on hold, etc.) and I can't listen to any of the audio files. Just gave it a listen and thought it sounded very good. I am not a piano player (eight years of violin) so I don't know all the correct terms, but thought your feel for it sounded good. It seemed to have the right amount of strength and softness and although it was something of a somber or introspective piece I thought the spirit lifted a bit toward the end. I liked it very much.

I had to deal with twin six-year-olds so I missed some of the middle and I didn't hear the mistake or the strangling.

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. (1 Pet 4:7-8 NIV)

Kincaid, thank you for the compliments. I agree with your description of this piece as "somber or introspective". It's very dark throughout, and the dissonances build an immense amount of tension if done properly. The final few bars, when the key changes to the tonic major, are gorgeous. It like you finally see the light at the end of the tunnel at 5:10, and step out into the sunlight at 5:35.

BTW, where did you get your sig line? eek
