Im really not sure what grade I'm in. I think around 9 or 10 (RCM). Can anybody tell me what grade level the first movement of Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata is because that's what I am playing at this moment. Im also learning Allegro Barbaro by Bela Bartok, anyone know what grade that is around. Thanks.

According to the RCM Syllabus, Beethoven's Op. 13 is listed under Gr. 10, but you don't need to know the entire sonata. You can choose to play either (a) 1st and 2nd movements, or (b) 2nd and 3rd movements. The Pathetique is not an option for the Performer's ARCT.

Bartok's Allegro Barbaro is ARCT level.

I don't know about the RCM system, but for the Associated board, I would guess it was around grade 7.

Considering that the first movement is the hardest movement, and the ABRSM set the complete sonata for the Dip.ABRSM, I would say that it is around the Dip.ABRSM level. It's certainly (a bit) harder than grade 8, for which they set the first movement of Op.2 No.1

I'd say the first of the pathetique is far harder than the first of op2 no1, although interstingly enough a while ago it was set as a grade 8 piece

Is there a site that lists the grade levels of pieces that are assigned by various standards/organizations?

www.abrsm.org I think for UK grades of the Royal School of music...if that's wrong, just search ABRSM on yahoo
Also we have guildhall grades which are popular - search guildhall school of music for the website
