Congrats Brendan -

It's a little out of the ordinary, but there's nothing wrong with having a string quartet @ your wedding (we did at ours).

I was so shell-shocked, I can hardly remember what was played...although I vaguely recall Pachelbel's Canon and something from Vivaldi..and we also had an arrangement of "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Ungar. Other than that, it's all a blur....

Same here! It was all a blur for me too. I can't remember a thing at my wedding! Which was a shame, because a 20-member madrigal choir sang at our church ceremony, then we had a flute-and-guitar duo for the dinner reception. I can't recall their programme, except for Satie's Gymnopedie, because a guest pulled me aside specifically to tell me it was a beautiful flute & guitar arrangement!

Congrats, Brendan and Shoko!! I wish you many, many years of happiness together. My middle brother's wedding had a string quartet (CCMer's) for their wedding reception.

I was so nervous. [Linked Image]

Whew, this is the first time I've gotten to sit down at my computer since we got home on Saturday. We were actually supposed to be back in KC on Friday afternoon, but the transmission on Shoko's new car died halfway there. Going 45 mph on the freeway made a normally 9-hour trip into a 2-day one. Never buy a Mazda (O/D OFF! O/D OFF!).

I do have to admit that I didn't feel as much stress in the whole preparation thing as Shoko did, since I was in KC and she was in Cincinnati doing most of the prep work. It was an intense week when I got back - getting our license, hosting her family who flew in from Japan, trying to make sure that all the proper building permits were filed (yes, you need a building and fire permit to put up a tent  ), trying to stop my family from tearing each other apart, etc. By the time the day came around, we were all unimaginably tired. Shoko and I spent the whole day at the nature preserve setting things up, but in the end I have to admit that it had more value to us knowing that we had invested so much of ourselves in making it happen, as opposed to just hiring people to do it for us. Everything fell in to place miraculously well.

Shoko and I were honored to have Jim (Palindrome) there. He was such a kind soul to come down from Chicago and sent us some very generous gifts as well, which I can not thank him enough for. I regret not getting out an invitation to apple* before I left town and hope that I am not dismissed from my teacherly duties.

We don't have and definite travel plans for the immediate future. Our original plan was to go to Japan for our honeymoon, but that got scrapped once we found out that we can't leave the country after we are married. From here on, we're working on permanent residency for her. We've hired an attorney, which I'm convinced is the best thing to do. I'm not even brave enough to do my own taxes, so there is no way that I would attempt something as complicated and important as this by myself. In the meantime we have an open invitation from my cousin Victoria (the minister!) to spend time at her beach house in Florida. That might be an option; we are also thinking of maybe Maine or Northern California.

We haven't gotten many pictures in yet, but of those that we have here are two that I like:
